Tom Pelphrey returns to Guiding Light

Tom Pelphrey, Jonathon Randall
I am a huge fan of Tom Pelphrey. He’s the young actor that played Jonathon Randall on Guiding Light. I just think he’s absolutely gorgeous. And, to be honest, I have no interest in GL without Tom or someone with Tom’s charisma and ability. Honestly, can they please get some new sets?

It’s been rumored for months that Tom was coming back to GL, albeit for only a short stay। And now we find out it’s true.

From SoapCentral.com:

Shhh! Tom Pelphrey has returned to Guiding Light, but it is supposed to be a secret. The news of the actor’s return inadvertently slipped out as news of a Guiding Light book detailing Jonathan’s life after staging his death was announced. The Emmy-winning Pelphrey exited the show earlier this year.

Though a Guiding Light spokesperson remains tight-lipped about the news, soapcentral.com has learned that Emmy winner Tom Pelphrey (Jonathan Randall) has returned to work on Guiding Light. As reported last month, sources close to the show had reported that the actor and show execs were in talks about a possible return.

An exact first airdate is not yet known for Pelphrey’s on-air return, however, the actor has already taped his first scenes. Those scenes are expected to air later this month. And in other news of uncertainty, Pelphrey’s return is slated to be only short-term, with the actor once again exiting the show this fall.

That’s unbelievable. I cannot wait. I was actually anticipating this the last couple of weeks when they started a storyline involving Reva kidnapping Lizzy to give bone marrow to Sarah. It turned out that Sarah didn’t need the marrow afterall, so what was the point of that? To pique our interest, no doubt.

Now, if they would only get rid of that gawd-awful Cleo on As the World Turns we’ll be a-ok.

Roasting weenies and making Pickles

Today was interesting. But I have to admit I got zero writing done (or searching as the case may be).

Grump, Mags, and I had a small weenie roast in the backyard. We bought this house for it’s awesome yard, and really are only just beginning to enjoy it fully. At any rate, we have a huge wood pile (compliments of the previous owners) and a nice spot behind the garage, so we went to it.

Mags loves roasted marshmallows. She tried to do some herself, but her stick was way too short. I really didn’t want her to be the one roasted. But she ended up being happy that with watching and eating the finished product. You can see Pooch in the background just waiting for his turn at the stick.

Lucky for him Lillady loves to share with him.

Grump decided to have a dog. He couldn’t get that thing on the stick just right. Poor guy didn’t do much roasting of the weenies when he was young.

In other news I decided to do something about that crazy garden of ours. The cucumbers were getting out of hand in the worst way, so I had to chop some vines back. And after our cookout, I decided to make some pickles.

I started with small cukes from the garden. Maybe 4 or 5 inches long. Then I brought them inside and scrubbed them with a vegetable brush- taking off the stems and flowers as well as those strange little bristles and all that dirt. Then I collected the ingredients.

  1. 1 1/2 cups water
  2. 1/2 cup white vinegar
  3. 1 1/2 tablespoons of salt (I used Kosher, but you should probably use pickling
  4. 1 clove of fresh garlic (peeled)
  5. 1 1/2 sprigs of fresh dill
  6. 1/2 teaspoon hotpepper seeds (optional)

*Multiply this by however many quarts you want to make.*

Put your jars in a canner full of water. Bring the water to a boil and boil for 10 minutes.

While that’s boiling mix the water, vinegar and salt in a small sauce pan to make the brine. Cook until salt is completely dissolved.

After your jars have boiled (sterilized) for 10 minutes, take one out and lay it on it’s side. Inside place the garlic, dill, and pepper seeds. On top of that start stacking the cucumbers.

I recommend placing the largest ones in first, as it’s easier to squeeze the smaller ones in last.

After you’ve finished putting them in, cover them completely with the hot brine. Seal your jar. There’s no need to use a hot water bath to finish the process. The jars should seal themselves.

Now comes the hard part. You should have pickles in 6-8 weeks.

Finding the right Keywords

I have found a fabulous site that references ways to find popular searches of the day.

What People Search For- Most Popular Keywords

By Danny Sullivan | May 26, 2006

Millions of searches are conducted each day on popular search engines by people all around the world. What are they looking for? A number of major search engines provide a way to glimpse into the web’s query stream to discover the most popular search keywords or topics.

Then he goes on to give you a list of ways to check popular search engines for their keywords.

Google Trends the best. Simply because they provide an awesome graph to show you how keywords are faring throughout the day.

Click on one of the terms to the left of the graph and Google will show you how popular that particular search term is for that part of the day.

I clicked on “the bronx zoo star” because I was considering doing a post on that subject. As you can see from the graph Google has declared that particular term “Spicy”. Now if you click on the number 1 search term, “ufc 73 results”, you’ll see that it’s “Volcanic”.

Below the graph you’ll find the most popular news articles and blog posts regarding whichever search term you’ve chosen. And below those results you’ll find generic web results. As you can tell by the way the page is laid out, news and blogs are the most popular hits among Google search users.

Of course, for variety you could use all the keyword search options provided on “What People Search for”.

If you’re curious about the keywords you’ve chosen then try Google AdWords Selector tool. You can enter the keywords or enter the url of an entire site to analyze the keywords. One of my sites turns up “marriage” as the most popular keyword. Google suggests I buy AdWords based on that term. Interesting.

So, for those using SEO and keywords to drive traffic, I suggest utilizing Google and other keyword tools to help you in your efforts. Don’t forget to stop over at Searchenginewatch.com to get more tips and hints.
