Gustav

This past month it’s barely rained. Our grass, in Southeastern Ohio, looks like it belongs on the plains of Texas- it’s brown and dry. Usually we get weather from the Gulf whenever they have a storm, but Faye did almost nothing for us. Our patio furniture covers have gone largely unused for this season, because why cover them when there’s no bad weather (that will change when the snow falls, of course).

Sadly, it looks like that’s about to change. Hurricane Gustav is bearing down on the Gulf and it may be worse than Katrina. People are smartly evacuating the cities that were hardest hit by Katrina and heading into Oklahoma and other more northern states. The governors of those states are declaring states of emergency because of the influx of evacuees (I refuse to call them refugees).

I’m praying that the people in the path of Gustav find safe haven and for the levees to stay strong. Hopefully our country is more prepared and no lives will be lost in the impending storm. I’ve got good friends that live down there and I don’t want anything to happen to them. This storm is the last thing anyone needs.

Speaking of the rash

Going along with the last post, I wanted to talk about my horrible skin problem. When I was first being diagnosed with FM I was also concerned with a rash that appeared whenever I was out in the sun. I was like some kind of monster acne, minus nasty blackheads, that would just take over my face. It was horribly painful and ugly. Doc gave me some kind of gel and told me to deal (basically).

I realized that I haven’t really mentioned it in a while. I started using American Beauty liquid makeup and that really seemed to help with the red blotches. It toned them down and I was happy. For a while. That would explain why I didn’t mention it again until now. Today my face has gone crazy again and it’s driving me crazy. I feel like the flawless skin I had as a teenager was a curse and I probably would have been better off with teenage acne.

So, it’s back to the drawing board with that. And one more thing to add to my journal.

Water Weight

So, I’ve been on a diet for about two weeks. Ok, two weeks. I’ve been working hard and eating well. But I think that might be changing. I’ve signed up for the National Body Challenge and am using a diabetics diet, exercising… But I swell up. A lot.

The day before I started my diet I weighed myself and I weight 1%^ lbs. I couldn’t believe it. I immediately started to look into every possible option for losing that weight including weight loss pills and liposuction. I found the diet and decided that was the best way for me. So, the next day I decide to go ahead and weigh myself (I’d determined that it was best if I did this every single day). I had amazing lost 20 pounds. Over night. No way.

That’s a lot of water weight, I don’t care who you are. I know that women are supposed to gain something between 5 and 10 pounds prior to their periods and I usually run a good 7 pounds water weight. Never, ever, ever ever have I gained 20 lbs. of water. Something was wrong.

So, now I’m not only tracking my regular weight (which is crazy in how it fluctuates), my diet, my exercise, but also any new and improved symptoms I may find in any way odd. I’m going to keep track of these oddities in a (hand-written) journal for the next 6 weeks after which I will march into my doctor’s office and demand an explanation. Or a new doctor. Either one will be fine with me.

I’ll try to keep you posted.
