Laid Off

Grump got laid off from his job last week. I’m seriously hoping that we won’t have to utilize moving services because of the financial situation. He’s got unemployment coming soon, but we don’t know how much yet and my two jobs together (two part-time gigs, I have to add) probably won’t make a big dent in our monthly bills.

On a brighter note, he’s finally got time to look for a better job. The city is hiring and his resume is on top of the list (according to the mayor’s office). Of course, just about everyone we know is looking for a job right now (the Ohio economy… need I say more?), so it’s possible that we’ll have to try to make do with what I’m bringing in for the time being. I’m thankful, though, that I can do my part to keep our finances afloat at this time. I just wish he wouldn’t have gotten laid off, because we were just starting to get caught up on everything.

But isn’t that the way these things always turn out? Just when you thought you were getting ahead…

At any rate, when I’m done with this semester in college I’ll be a certified computer technician, which should look a lot better on my resume (freelance write and waitress aren’t really the eye catchers that one would think they are). And I can still find more part-time work if I need to. He doesn’t have any other kind of obligations that would prevent him from watching Mags, so I can take another job outside of the home and work two jobs from home. I don’t want to work all that much, but if that’s what I’ve got to do then that’s what I’ve got to do. Not a whole lot of skin off my nose. I just want to make sure we don’t lose the house (and heat…brrrr). If I can keep up on the mortgage, his unemployment should be able to handle the other bills. I’m confident that we’ll be ok for a little while and there’s really nothing to worry about right now. That attitude may change in the next couple of months, though, if his company doesn’t hire him back or the city doesn’t call him. Keep your fingers crossed for that.

I’m more worried about the health insurance. I’m sick and not getting better and without insurance I won’t be able to buy my medication. I don’t know what I’ll do when that happens. We’ve got another month to worry about that, but right now I’m thinking I’m going to have to stock up on my meds or something. Except we really don’t have the money to do that, so I’m not exactly sure how I’m going to go about it. Alternative medicines maybe? I dunno. That’s my biggest worry right now. I really do hope he gets called back soon or gets that other job. Soon. Like tomorrow. That way I can keep my sunny outlook and not fall into a pit of despair.
