Gustav

This past month it’s barely rained. Our grass, in Southeastern Ohio, looks like it belongs on the plains of Texas- it’s brown and dry. Usually we get weather from the Gulf whenever they have a storm, but Faye did almost nothing for us. Our patio furniture covers have gone largely unused for this season, because why cover them when there’s no bad weather (that will change when the snow falls, of course).

Sadly, it looks like that’s about to change. Hurricane Gustav is bearing down on the Gulf and it may be worse than Katrina. People are smartly evacuating the cities that were hardest hit by Katrina and heading into Oklahoma and other more northern states. The governors of those states are declaring states of emergency because of the influx of evacuees (I refuse to call them refugees).

I’m praying that the people in the path of Gustav find safe haven and for the levees to stay strong. Hopefully our country is more prepared and no lives will be lost in the impending storm. I’ve got good friends that live down there and I don’t want anything to happen to them. This storm is the last thing anyone needs.
